Tuesday ... FIELD TRIP!!!

Today, we ventured out onto a field trip. We left a little later than intended (but since we didn't have any certain time we had to be there, it was just fine!) at about 9:00 am and headed for Lufkin, TX to visit the Ellen Trout Zoo. Each car (there were two cars in our train) made a quick stop in Crockett ... Troy stopped to file Tim and Jennie's marriage license and I made a quick stop at Wal-mart. Then, we were on our way! We were able to see a lot of animals today. The zoo there is very nice. It is a smaller zoo ... it doesn't cover as many acres as some zoos, but it has a lot of animals and there is less walking. I'll include some pictures below of the trip to the zoo. We really enjoyed our morning there. After us monkeys visited the other animals, we took a ride on the zoo train! This proved to be a relaxing end to our zoo trip. Then, we loaded up again for some lunch (at Whataburger) and headed back toward home. All children fell asleep on the way home. Thankfully, both bus drivers managed to stay awake. It was a beautiful drive through the Davey Crockett National Forest with the towering pine trees.

Troy, Christian, and Elizabeth watch the otters play (Darcie's favorite animal from the day).

Our Zoo Field Trip explorers!

Darcie walks under a beautiful Crape Myrtle Tree.

The giraffes came close to the fence! There was even a young (baby) giraffe in there!

Today, we give tribute to a little-known man, Edouard Benedictus for his accidental discovery of safety glass in 1903! (This is a Komodo Dragon ... fantastic animal ... read up on it if you don't already know about them!).

Does this look familiar, Jen???
Christian, Elizabeth, Darcie, and Abigail on the very back of the train (Aunt Sarah and Jeremiah in the background).

Jeremiah enjoys the train ride.

Four kids "ate up" at Whataburger.

"This is Mars!"

This evening, we all took a trip back to Crockett for dinner with Grammie, Paw, and Uncle Hugh for "All you can eat" at Pizza Hut. It was a fun day!

  1. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun! The otters are my favorite by a long shot. They seem to have more fun than any other animal at that zoo. They enjoy putting on a show. I feel so good knowing you guys are there. Thanks for everything. Missing the kiddos. Love you all.
