"If only the walls could talk ..."

The house we are working on and hope to be moved into very soon was built on or around 1920. It is always kind-of romantic to think of what a structure of this age could tell us about the past if only it could talk to us ... to wonder what it has seen and what has happened during it's "lifetime". As we were pulling the hard wood floor out of our kitchen (insert a tear from Troy), we discovered that whoever put in the hard wood floor in the little room off of our kitchen used newspaper as some sort of a sealer paper (possibly instead of tar paper) under the flooring! We have parts of several pages, but one page is almost completely intact ... the front page of the Kansas City Star from November 16, 1940! The headline article speaks of the Nazis bombing England and includes pictures sent by "cable and wirephoto". We were so excited to find this little treasure and I wanted to share some of the pictures with you. I also enjoyed some of the ads ... seeing what things cost at the time ... check out the pictures from a few pages.
